The giant chip producer Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. provides chips to major electronic products including those of Apple Inc. The company recently built its first Japanese factory on the country’s southern island Kyushu, looking forward to reducing its future geopolitical risks from Beijing while receiving subsidizations from the Japanese government. The semiconductor industry has been in upheaval since last year, when widespread chip shortages snarled auto making and other industries.
